Types of Windows & Styles

Whether it’s a new build or you’re looking at replacing your windows in your existing property, choosing the style and type of window can involve difficult decisions. Your choice of window will significantly impact the design theme of the home, the comfort felt within the home, and its energy efficiency. It could even positively affect the long-term value of the property. So what are the major window types and styles available on the market today?

Casement

These are probably the most popular style of window in Ireland today. They consist of a frame with at least one window attached via a hinge, and most casements open outwards similar to a door. Casements are contemporary, simple to use, and versatile for different property needs.

Tilt & Turn

As the name suggests, tilt and turn windows operate with the option of tilting open inwards vertically without compromising security. The turning feature allows the window to open fully inwards like a door. This is done by turning the handle 90 degrees to tilt and a further 90 degrees to turn. These windows are excellent when regular ventilation is needed but with maintained security.

Sliding Sash

These windows are a beautiful choice, perfect for period and period-style homes. They offer a unique look, and the vertical sliding sash design allows for ventilation without requiring space inside or outside the property. In older properties, replacing windows with this style can maintain the timeless aesthetic of the structure while improving comfort and energy efficiency.

French

French windows are similar to casement windows with hinges on either side, opening like a door and allowing maximum ventilation. They offer similar security to casement windows and are perfect for framing views of the surrounding landscape.
